Multiattach drive

Hi,
I am struggling to do something which I thought simple.
On a Windows 7 PC, building Windows 2K3/2K8 VM.
I want to create
A master VM to get a master disk which I can transform to a multiattach disk, in order to build multiple VMs based on that disk
So my steps:
Create a "master" VM, install OS and application, create snapshot1
Sysprep the VM, create snapshot2
Clone snapshot2 to master-w2kx.vdi
Change master-w2kx.vdi to multiattach
Then create new VM, using the master-w2k.vdi as base disk.
1. Is this scenario and process valid
2. will the new VM created from master-w2kx.vdi keep the changes, in differencing files
I have tried that and got errors when creating the VM from the master-w2k.vdi. It could not create the VM.
Then when retrying with another new VM, the disk is not multiattached, but has been change to Normal.
I am doing something wrong, but can't see what exactly.
Can somebody details the process to obtain a master disk that can be used as a "multiattach" disk to create multiple VM from?
Thanks
Emmanuel
