installing gentoo on the HDD via VB

Im basically wondering if i can create an image of the raw disk partition into which i want to install gentoo and via this image manipulate the partition space in a manner necessary for the installation of gentoo? i have read through a bit of the manual ( specifically chap. 9), but am still a little uneasy about what i should do
