Windows XP & Windows 7 [BSOD]

I'm having a problem installing Windows XP and Windows 7 in VirtualBox, which is strange because they used to run fine on this PC before a resent format. When installing XP I get a BSOD saying "session3_initialization_failed" shortly after booting from the CD, and Windows 7 just gives me "Windows has encountered an error". Strangely Server 2003 installs fine 
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
