WinXP on WinXP: Fatal: No bootable medium found !

Hello guys,

I am running on a WinXP OS and I need to set up VirtualBox (v 4.0.0) to use WinXP as guest system (don't ask me why :) ) but when starting the machine I have the well known error message: "Fatal: No bootable medium found ! System halted"

The virtual machine configuration is pretty much the default one, I first tried using a WinXP .iso image but I got the above error, then I used MagicISO to mount the .iso file to the DVD location and used the DVD location to run the virtual image but got always the same error. Note that double clicking the DVD location WinXP image starts, so the image seems not to be the problem.

Creating the image, under the Storage section under the IDE Controller section, I see the hard disk as primary master and the DVD image as secondary master. Is that the correct configuration?
Could you think at anything else that I am not doing or doing wrong?

Thanks

Did you mount the iso in the VM's "CD drive"? On Storage, click on the CD drive under the IDE controller, and in CD/DVD Device on the right, choose the ISO from the dropdown. Also, on System, make sure on the Motherboard tab, the CD/DVD-ROM box is checked, and listed above the Hard Disk.

Since you can open the file with MagicISO, check if the type is 'bootable'. If it's not, there's your problem. Get an ISO that can boot a system.

thanks for your suggestions guys,
it turns out that the iso image I used was not bootable, once making it bootable it worked.

Thanks for your help
