No mic pass through

Hello, I am new to VB and had a quick question.

I have a Win 7 64bit host running VB 4.0.0 with a VM running XP SP3. I have Rosetta Stone installed on it and the sound works but the mic pass through does not. I used to do this "XP Mode" but ended up rebuilding my system and a lot of my friends said I should try VB instead of using XP Mode. Has anyone been able to get the mic to work this way? I have searched the forums and asked the all mighty Google but haven't found a relevant answer. I am no stranger to OS's, VM's, or tech in general. I have been in IT support for almost 14 years. I have just never had the need to setup something like this until now. I guess if no one has an answer I can always go back to XP Mode but that has it's own limitations. VB seems to be a more flexible tool and I would like to continue to use it. Before anyone asks, the reason I don't just install Rosetta Stone in Win 7 is because it won't run. The version I have only seems to like XP and it is too freak'n expensive to buy a new version. Also, I know I could always dual boot, but who wants to go through all that anymore. Thanks in advance

Mic passthrough should work just fine, as there have been people who even used Dragon Natural Speaking with VB. Anyway, make sure that the mic is not muted on the Host, volume is high enough and the correct sound card is selected for input. When you've confirmed the mic works on the Host, boot the VM and check the volume levels there.

I agree, it should work but it doesn't. All sound works perfectly on my host. All levels are set correctly. Sound from the VB works (ie: when a Windows sound plays I can hear it) but mic input doesn't (can't hear my voice over the VB). I have tried all available VB driver settings with no luck. Do I need to install audio drivers on the VB to make it work? Thanks.

Everything should just work, as long as the audio driver is installed in the guest. Since you hear sound from the Guest, it means that it has the sound card installed. Did you use the input troubleshooter of the Guest OS?

Is there one specifically for the VB or are you talking about the one built into Windows? If you mean the one in the OS I have already done that. The guest OS just doesn't seem to like the mic. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Within VirtualBox (4.3.10 r93012 with Guest Additions) I am unable to achieve mic pass through also. I have microphone funtionality on both Windows 7 and Ubuntu (14.04 and 12.04), but when using the exact same OS configurations within VirtualBox, I have no microphone funtionality.
