Modem will not connect in windows XP

I am running VirtualBox 4.0 in Windows7 so that, amongst other things, I can use a legacy scanner and modem both USB devices. The scanner connects fine.. the Modem (sitecom DC009 V2) connects when attached to my previuos XP machine but
When connected via VirtualBox.. it dials the ISP but the next message logged after SEND ATDT (Phone No) and RECV ATDT (Phone No) Is TSP Dropping Call and Attempting to abort commandAny suggestions would be appreciated
