Hello all,
as you may know, the old OSE Version of VirtualBox supported a Virtual Network Computing (VNC) Server.

But now with Version 4.0 there's no OSE Version anymore, because 4.0 is released under GPL (and not PUEL like the old none-OSE).

The VirtualBox Extension Pack has support for RDP, but is released under PUEL, not GPL.

So my question:
Where's the implementation of a complete VNC server on top of the virtual hardware gone since Version 4.0?
Did I miss anything here?

It was eliminated.
You would need to setup a VNC server on the guest now.

I hope it will be returned someday in GPL extpack. But no one working on it to my knowledge.

I guess I'll be sticking with 3.2 until a VNC feature pack is released.

And how do you succeed in setting up a vnc server in a GUEST machine before you are able to install an OS in the GUEST, especially in headless server guest os?

Yes. I am.
VNC server is part of VBox source tree, and works even if no guest OS installed.

You'll need to compile VirtualBox OSE from source code. (Oracle's build don't have VNC)
command:
configure --enable-vnc
then:
VBoxHeadless will have new vnc options
