Import appliance 4.0 disk default offered is VMDK?

Post by appyface »

I exported then imported OVF using 4.0.0 VBox Manager Virtual Appliance Import and Export commands.

The default disk format I am offered on import of the OVF, is VMDK? I went ahead with the import and the VMDK works fine. I read here that I can change the format so I will try that.

Isn't VBox's own format still VDI? My original VM I exported to OVF uses VDI. Is VBox changing over to using VMDK as default format instead of VDI?

Just a curiosity question. Everything is working well here with 4.0.0 so far, whether VDI or VMDK.

Kind regards,

VirtualBox's native disk image format is VDI. But, OVF is a VMWare invention, hence the VMDK default if you use OVF.
