Parole Media Player and VirtualBox

I've just noticed a few distros are going with Parole as their media player but it doesn't seem to work with VirtualBox. So far I've tried it in 3 different guest distros, two Debian Squeeze-based and one PCLOS based. It gives the same error, "can't initialize XV output", and I also noticed that if you run gstreamer-properties the device drop-down menu says unsupported and is grayed out.
VLC and other media players seem to work.

any thoughts?

edit: I just tried it in Xubuntu 10.10 and same error.
