Undo Disk Feature

I've used Windows Virtual PC 2007 for years. It has done everything I've needed, except support USB devices. I saw that Virtual PC 7 is supposed to support this, but then also found this program. So far this looks like a great improvement with many uneful features I hadn't thought of wanting...

However, I can not fine one feature I use in Virtual PC 2007 that I need in a virtual box. I am looking for a "disk undo" option. The best I understand how MS does this is your disk image file is not touched while you use the machine, and a separate file is maintained with deltas form the image. Then when you shutdown the machine you have an option to either merge the deltas into your image, or to throw them away.

My primary use of a virtual box is to run a copy of windows that I can test new software on, or what ever might be in the realm of increased risk to virus, etc. This has allowed me to load up a virtual machine, trash it in the matter of an hour by trying out a dozen video editing software packages from unknown sources, etc. Then I simply close the window and everything I've done is now gone. But then I know if any of those video editing packages will do what I want. And then I can research that package more to see if it is a clean and safe program.

The key here of course is being able to use a virtual image with out tainting that image. I suppose I could copy my image and keep recopying it over my main image each time. But I rather like the undo option rather than maintaining mulitple images.

Please let me know if this feature exists in VirtualBox and I haven't found it, if you think this is a feature to suggest in that forum, or if you think its better to just copy the image each time to "reset" the image.

Just shut down your VM and take a snapshot of it.

Whenever you now close the window, VirtualBox will give you a checkbox to restore the VM to the snapshot, or you can just load the snapshot by hand before you start it again the next time.
