Win 7 Virtualbox file size doubles!! Help!

Post by dennyyin »

Hi,

I have a upgrade licence of Win 7. So I installed Win 7 on my Mac, and the file is about 10G. Then I upgraded Win 7 to itself just to be able to activate the Win 7. However, after upgrading, the file size goes up to 20G, which is just insane. When I get in the Win 7 virtual environment and check the size, it told me the size of all the files WITHIN Win 7 is just 10G. But when I got back to Mac, 'Finder' still tells me the virtual file takes about 20G. What happens? It seems VB still retains the first version of pre-upgraded Win 7. How can I get rid of this previous version? 20G is just too much on my Mac.

Thanks very much for those who can give me any help or suggestions!!

First:

Growable Images could be greater than the content size.

Use "CloneVDI" (search in Forum) or "VBoxManage modifyhd ...compact" and "sdelete.exe" (see Manual) to compact the image to the size really needed by content.

Second:

You must not upgrade the upgrade. Ask Google for "mediabootinstall windows 7". So i installed my Windows 7 upgrade on a new machine without installing old version.
