Stuck in loop installing Win2k guest

Post by halioris »

Given the errors received trying to install Windows 2000 using VB 4.0 (VERR_SUPLIB_OWNER_NOT_ROOT error referenced in prior post) I saw that someone else posted the same thing and said if they went back to VB 3.x everything worked fine. Being a first timer I figured I'd try the same thing. So I uninstalled VB 4.0 and installed VB 3.2. The VB install went fine. I created a VM for Windows 2000 and started it up. I specified the iso file I had on my hard drive to be used and it went through the Windows installation. It all seemed to be going ok until I got thrown into what appears to be an endless loop. I'm in my third pass through now, so I don't think it's going away.

It starts Windows, then goes through the process of "discovering the mouse and keyboard" which takes a couple minutes. Then I get the system locale and keyboard customization options followed by the entry of my name, naming the computer, providing an Administrator password for Windows and setting the timezone. It then proceeds with installing networking components and comes back with a screen to enter a workgroup or domain. After I enter a workgroup name to be craeted it goes through a screen where it says it is installing components and then almost immediately starts flashing, does a Windows reboot, and goes back into Windows 2000 Setup and starts the same exact process over again.

Any suggestions?

Even though it shouldn't be needed, check the manual for Windows 2000 installation troubleshooting. Something with IDE timeout.
