HELP: BSOD Every time Windows 7 guest restarts

Hi, i am in need of some help:

My Windows 7 Guest is running fine, when i start VB and start my guest, but every time i (need to) restart/reboot the "Windows 7 guest", it will show the windows 7 boot logo and then i get a BSOD with the following stop error:

*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0x80786B58,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

I can get rid of it by first shutting down the guest, and then i need also to EXIT VIRTUALBOX altogether and restart it again!

I find this very weird - is this some kind of memory leak or something...

Would appreciate you advise and/or comments

BTW: I am using the latest version of VB, and i have just started using it - so i have no previous experience with VB
The guest is Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) and the host is (also) Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit)
:?: :?: :?:

Did you activate PAE/NX for the guest? Or do you use ICH9 chipset setting?

I have the same BSOD at guests restart after reboot for vista and windows 7 guests, 32/64 Bit. Shutdown/Poweroff and then restart works, but no reboot.

Host: Opensuse 11.3/64, Processor AMD Phenom

With VBOX 4.0 i changed all this guests to intel ich9 and images from ide to sata.

Vt is activated, setting nested pages activated.

Setting pae/nx has no effect, else on or off. Same for 2D/3D on/off.

With the 4.0.0 Beta 4 guest additions I had no BSODs. But the final crashs. Maybe you can try them.

Another Win7/32 Guest with Intel Rapid Storage Driver posts:

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005.0x8782FFC7,0x807FB9DC,0x8ß7FB5C0)

Tested with Beta 4 Additions. But this is not the problem.

I think its a problem from the combination ich9 and sata driver.

The problem also occurs IDE+ICH9

Just wanted to report I am also experiencing BSOD and freezing of Win 7 guest when using ICH9 mobo chipset setting in VirtualBox 4.0.0. Doesn't seem to matter if I have the virtual HDD on the SATA or IDE controller.

Sounds like it is time to fill a ticket. bugtracker
You need to setup an account there as it is on a different system. Please post the ticket number here so others can add to the ticket and see the results.
Don't forget to attach the guests log file! They are really serious about that.

Seems to be reported.

See http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/7916

In the log there is ich9.

I linked this thread in the bug.

I'd like to share what would seem to be the solution to this error:
From Vista and upwards, windows will disable drivers that aren't needed by the system, for example if you initially install the OS without AHCI, and then make a VM of it that only runs AHCI.
To fix this, before you make the VM (or as in my case, convert the VM from VMware to Vbox) edit the following in the registry to re-enable AHCI:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci -> Start = 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV -> Start = 0

That should clear up the BSOD, atleast if it's the STOP code mentioned in the first post :)

I checked the OSE from today. Now the Reset Problem with Windows Guests seems to be fixed. Checked with Vista 64, Windows Home/Ultimate 32/64.

This also effects XP guests, with a 0x0000000A error.
