V4.0.0 and Ubuntu 10.10

Hi there
Just upgraded to version 4.0.0 and my Ubuntu 10.10 guest machine will now no longer boot. The machine is on a usb drive that I access using a raw disk and I wonder if this is what is causing the issue as it seems to sit on the "USB HID Core driver" and not get any further. I've tried turning off USB etc but still no joy.
If I boot from the USB drive directly rather than using it as a raw disk ubuntu works fine so I know that its something to do with VB just not what......
Anyone got any ideas....? Or do I need to go back to the previous version?
