Hi all,

Host OS: Windows XP SP3
Guest OS: Ubuntu 10.04LTS

I have just upgrade my virtualbox from 3.2.6 to 4.0 no errors reported, afterwards install virtualbox extension pack with no errors.

When I try to start an ubuntu guest VM with a vdi file that I already have, the VM wont start, waited for more than 15 minutes and still dont. I proceed restarting the host and try again with no result at all, the VM stays on a black screen there is no activity shown on the virtual hard disk indicator (IDE Primary)

Also I try creating a new VM and attaching the existing vdi to that machine, and got the same result, no start.

Could anyone please give some advice?

There appears to be a problem with ACPI under VBox 4.0 and Ubuntu. Turn off the problem VM and try using the command:

Code: Select all

vboxmanage modifyvm <vm name> --acpi off
to disable ACPI, then try restarting the VM. See https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubunt ... 00194.html , http://lastland.net/tech/bugs/UbuntuVboxProblem1.htm , etc., for more details.
