Sprint USB u301 4G modem

Post by iisaphd »

Is there a way to get the Sprint u301 model to work under VirtualBox? I can see the item in my USB devices, but when I use the Sprint SmartView client, it just sits in the "initializing" state when under 3G. When I switch to 4G, it's even worse: it tells me no devices found. Other USB devices (like my iPod) are working fine within the VirtualBox guest OS.

The modem works fine under the host operating system (Ubuntu 10.10, 64 bit) on 3G, so I am sure that the device is fine. Guest operating system is Windows 7, 32 bit.

Let me know what other information you might need from me.

Why do you want to do this?

With a virtual NIC from type NAT the guest uses hosts internet connection.

The reason is this: I have been unable to get 4G to work on the host (only 3G) and was hoping that the SmartView client would allow me to get 4G working on the guest. Otherwise, there is no reason to not use the virtual NIC.

You can try USB Filters. Cut the connection on the host before starting guest.

But remember: Not all USB devices work properly.
