Machine uuid - where/how is the os influenced?

Hi

Where is the operating system influenced by the "Machine uuid" entry in the xml file?
Why does windows 7 need a reactivation when the uuid changes?
How and where are other OS (Linux, MacOS) affected?

Thanks in advice.

For activation of Windows, see Guests section. There's a topic discussing that. Other things like Linux and Mac, no idea, they probably don't care. I know Linux doesn't, as it will boot on a variety of systems once installed.

But I wonder where in the windows system the uuid is affecting, is there an registry entry or something?

That's the mystery MS wants to keep. Something makes a check for the hardware UUID with what it's stored in it's activation state.
