Hey guys,
I'm new to VM and I am having trouble transfering files from my Host (windows 7) to my guest (WIndows Xp).
All I want to do is have a common folder that is in my C drive of my host show up on my Guest computer. They both need to be able to read/write.
I tried the shared files tab, but i cannot find it on my guest XP. Its not on that C drive, and My Network places does not show anything either.
Help??
thanks

Re: sharing folders with an XP guest
I realized I needed to install guest additions.
I am now having trouble connecting to a device through my host's ethernet port. Im trying to connect to a device with a specific IP address (I set my guest's ip address to match the device), but I am having trouble establishing the connections. any direction is well recieved..
thanks,
Ian

Re: sharing folders with an XP guest
I have a step-by-step "for dummies" guide on how to share folders with an XP guest on my blog, if it may help anyone with similar issues with getting file sharing to work.. http://winipulator.blogspot.com/2010/12 ... rk-in.html
My "Host-to-Guest" speed is 15 MB/s
My "Guest-to-Host" speed is 25 MB/s
Ian, as for you trying connect to a device with a specific IP address, I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do. I may very well be wrong, and I hope someone corrects me. But I'm thinking that what you're trying to do is outside the scope of VirtualBox file sharing. My understanding is that the networking that VB uses, as far as its file sharing feature goes, exists only in an emulated state within the guest, using drivers provided by Guest Additions.
I'm thinking that for what you're trying to do, an FTP server/client might be better suited. Filezilla has a freeware/open source FTP server and client which are said to be the best out there. Good luck to you.

Re: sharing folders with an XP guest
thanks for the response. actually we got it figured out. It worked great, we were able to use the ethernet port on the laptop as the ethernet port for the guest to connect to our device.
thanks again.
thanks again.
