Host: Ubuntu 10.10, Guest: Windows 7, Vbox: Version 3.2.12... No Guest Additions

Somewhere in the middle of the installation process I get the following message:

"There is insufficient space on the disk for the temporary files required for this operation"

I have 1280 MB of memory and 20 GB (default setting) of storage allocated for the VM. I have nearly 200 GB of available space on the hard drive.

Any suggestions?

1) I'm using settings that I've seen in multiple tutorials... I've even allocated extra memory.

2) Why in the world would Windows 7 or any OS need more than 20 GB of Virtual Space?

You need to make sure that the location that you are install the guest to has the required amount of space. Say for example you installed Ubuntu using LVM you would have a root partition that is small by default. So if these conditions are as I show and you try to install as root the actual partition will not be large enough while the entire partition size would show a larger amount of free space.

Whether it makes sense to you or not, the message it gives is clear and explicit - it says that whatever (virtual) partition holds your setup temp files is too small. That should take you mere moments to check, it would get an answer that none of us here can provide - and most likely lead to an obvious solution.
