Troubles with bridged networking mode
Hello. I am using VirtualBox 3.2.12 on a SL 10.6.5 host with Windows XP SP2 as a guest machine. I am having some trouble getting bridged mode to work properly. For some reason my router will assign the adapter an ip address/dhcp lease, but I cannot see/ping my local network or outside world. NAT mode and host only modes work fine, but I really need to access servers on the local network. I have tried several things to fix the problem including: disabling all firewalls, uninstall/reinstall VB, using older versions of VB, uninstall/reinstall of VB guest additions, uninstall/reinstall guest network adapters (trying several different models) and configuring network adapter manually. I can ping back and forth between guest and host fine, it just seems that the host is not allowing access to the outside world. Anyone have any suggestions. Help is much appreciated. Thanks
Re: Troubles with bridged networking mode
Are you trying to use a bridge over a wifi interface by chance? I've been struggling with that issue all day and it seems to be a problem with the wifi interface specifically. If you try a wired connection and tell vbox to use that interface for the bridge, it should work fine.

Re: Troubles with bridged networking mode
Nope. I am using a wired ethernet connection. It's been configured in the machine settings to use a bridged connection but still has very limited connectivity. As for your problem,I think I remember seeing somewhere that there are some known issues with using wifi and bridged mode. I will PM you if I stumble across anything helpful...

Re: Troubles with bridged networking mode
Problem SOLVED. I tried a different network card driver (I use a hackintosh) and it works beautifully now. I read on the insanelymac forums that it has something to do with "promiscuous mode".

Re: Troubles with bridged networking mode
Thanks for posting your solution. I had posted a similar problem earlier today (bridged adapter worked with Windows XP, not with Windows 7), then rechecked the postings, found yours, changed my adapter to PDnet-FAST III, and my problem is also solved.
