I keep getting this when using a KVM switch which switches between another system and the host system which share a monitor and keyboard.
THe USB device is the microsoft ergonomic 4000. I have installed the driver on the guest and have enabled it in the settings but still when I switch back I get this naggin message.
If i don't use the keyboard I don't get it.
For somereason I don't get it for another receiver mouse usb, but it is not shared with the KVM so that is different with that one.

And exactly why are you trying to give the only input you have to the Guest, leaving no option at all to control the Host? Are you afraid you can't control the VM if you don't?

ok let me see if i can understand what you are asking....
no I read that several times and still not sure.
"only input" keyboard? it does control the host., I also have the radio mouse on the host but it is recognised on the guest too so.....?
"afraid"? I'm just trying to flip to the second monitor/system from the host/guest hooked up to the same second monitor/keyboard.
to reiterate:
desktop + monitor 1 + monitor 2 + USB Keyboard
to
KVM Switch - Sharing Monitor 1 + USB Keyboard
to
Laptop Win7 + monitor 1 + USB Keyboard
(Guest XP + monitor 1) USB Keyboard
Its like the USB Keyboard on Guest is not reconnecting when the KVM disconnects/Reconnects it.
It does discover again after a while but doesnt work and asks to reboot to make it work, agravating.

That's why I asked why you give the KVM keyboard and mouse to the VM directly. The VM already accepts input from the Host side, so no need to have a separate set. The way a KVM switch works only confuses VB.

Ok thanks for that advice. It seems to work now that I've removed every USB item from the USB device filters box.
I first added my USB thumb drive to get it to detect because it wouldn't detect on the guest , only the host.
Now that I removed it I may need to add that one again as it is not showing up on guest again.

ok I didn't have to add the USB drive to the device filters, I just needed to select it in the guest device list.
All works. Thanks.
