Can't output to USB-to-Serial converter

I've set up my XP guest on an OpenSuSE 11.3 host. From the host OS I can send and receive, using minicom, with my Prolific USB-to-Serial converter.

However, from the guest OS I can receive, but I cannot send. I plugged the DB-9 into a loopback plug and no data is being returned. However, if I plug it into a serial device that sends out an initialization string, I see that in HyperTerminal every time.

I looked at the logs, and it shows that the USB device is initializing properly. So something is being lost between OS and the USB port. Further, the USB monitor icon at the bottom of the window shows activity when I type in HyperTerminal, but nothing makes it to the serial port.

Baud rate, and all other parameters, are correct.

Any ideas? I searched the forums and found a lot of info for adapters that are not working at all, but nothing that addresses this issue.

Are you sure that you are using the OSE version of VirtualBox?
The OSE version does not support USB. You would need to install the PUEL version for that.

It is the PUEL. I thought that was what I selected in the drop-down. Blame it on the bloody touchpad!

HyberTerminal is not a good program for testing - have you disabled flow conctrol.
