Unity not working
I have Ubuntu 11.04 alpha 1 and Oz Unity installed as guests. Both run but neither can run in 3D mode.
Is there a work around or is that coming later?

Re: Unity not working
I see. drats. Well Oz Unity does have a 2d mode that works. Compiz doesn't work in 11.04 at all. Even logged in Gnome. Oz Unity is 10.04 based so Compiz works if in the Gnome Desktop.Perryg wrote:Doubtful and 10.10 netbook with unity does not work at all.

Re: Unity not working
this is Oz Unity 1.0...

as I mentioned it semi-works in VirtualBox. If you enable hardware acceleration, log into the Gnome session, enable desktop effects and then log into Unity Netbook 2D. You get transparency and a few other effects you would get if you could log into Unity 3D. so some things work, some things don't.
not sure why one can't log in to the normal Unity 3D environment since clearly 3D is working.

Re: Unity not working
I didn't realize "Oz Unity" uses a revamped 10.04 UNR and apparently has little in common with the 10.10 version nor the one that will be in 11.04. It seems it will be 3D only, so I guess I find it odd VirtualBox has no plans to support a major feature of the largest Linux distro out there.Perryg wrote:Doubtful and 10.10 netbook with unity does not work at all.

Re: Unity not working
Who said that VirtualBox will not support it? What I said is it does not work in 10.10.

Re: Unity not working
It works now with 4.0.0, but man, Unity is horrible, I am hoping they are planning on redesigning it from scratch.

Re: Unity not working
I believe the actual reason why there was issues was because of an ubuntu bug with a compiz plugin, the plugin/compiz does not check to see if the graphics drivers supports a GL extension, and instead just crashes.

Re: Unity not working
well,, it doesn't seem to be working for me in VB 4.0. here's a screen...

as you can see the top right of the panel isn't drawing correctly. also the text when you mouse over the icons in the left panel are garbled. I tried to restart Compiz as someone at the Ubuntu forums suggested but all that accomplished was to move my terminal to the top left of the screen....

I don't know what the errors indicate in the terminal.
I know it does run in VB 4.0 because I have seen screenshots of it running. Maybe it has to do with the fact I am running the Mac version of VB or my graphics chipset doesn't support all the features it needs to. I don't know.

Re: Unity not working
well what I did was, after installing the GAs, I logged into gnome classic first, turned on desktop effects, then logged into Unity Desktop.d3drocks wrote:
