Mac on Mac possible?

Post by invasion2121 »

Hello,

I am running VirtualBox v3.2.12 for OS X. The host operating system is
Mac OSX 10.6.5. The hardware is a macbook (intel).

I have an ISO image for Mac OS X v. 10.6.2 and I want to run it on
VirtualBox as a guest operating system.

I effectively want to run a Mac on Mac. However, I'm running into problems.
After loading the ISO file into the CD/DVD drive of Virtual Box, I click
on the "start" button which attempts to boot the guest OS (os x10.6.2). I get an error message
that says I will not be able to run OS X because my hardware does not support it.

This does not make any sense since I'm already on a Mac! How can a mac hardware not support a mac os?

Shouldn't it be possible to run a Mac on Mac?

It is possible. And very very useful for thrashing out OS X setups, debugging issues by always having a clean install available, etc.

I am not sure what exactly is allowed by the forum rules, so I won't discuss any details.

Then you should've read the above link from Perry first. Only the SERVER version is allowed, as stated in Apple's EULA. The desktop is a no-go.

Which is why I will not discuss which versions of OS X I may or may not be running.

No, which is why you never should've said the above in the first place. You say "yes, it's possible" when the OP asks for Mac OSX desktop edition. But enough said.

Modedit: Content removed. Don't link to sites that discuss illegal actions. Mac OSX Server is only allowed on a genuine Mac.
