Debian Etch on Debian Squeeze - Installation blocked

Post by amahoro »

Hello everyone, I installed vbox on debian squeeze. now I want to install an older version of debian, debian etch, in vbox.
I allocated 700MB of RAM and 15GB of hard disk. partitioning end without problems, but after telling him the type of installation of debian I want (basic system), began when selecting and installing the software but it hangs at 5%. remained in this condition for two hours.

which may be the cause in your opinion?

symbol indicates that the disk is not working

Hi,

what kind of installation media: ISO, or CDROM?

and you could post a VBox.log as attachment

I allocated 700MB of RAM
i don't think its the source of your problem, but give straight values like 768MB ...

I installed Etch by CDROM.
try with checked "passthrough" option (in the guests CDROM settings) or better attach an ISO file ("netinst" ISO recommended;)

find as attachment VBox.log
i don't see any obvious, but

Code: Select all

00:00:32.452 HWACCM: No VT-x or AMD-V CPU extension found. Reason VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED
your CPU could do VT-x hardware virtualisation: maybe you can turn "virtualisation" on in your notebook BIOS (switch off after setting, some even need the battery to be removed for a short time)

i checked "passthrough" option, i gave 770mb of RAM but the situation remains the same, Hangs at 5% of the selection and installation of the software.

i attach vbox.log

what do you think?

... and log is still the same, i can not see a possible cause there

what is the source of your CD? where did you download and what is the name of the ISO file?

other than that you really should enable VT-x hardware virtualisation in your BIOS (its still diasabled)

so, i enabled VT-x hardware on BIOS, but i didn't resolve the situation. I used many times this cd, it's Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r3 "Etch".

I had no time to try again so I installed Ubunto server and everything works.

thank you very much

hmm... so its probably the i386 and not amd64? - the 64bit amd64 would not have worked on a host without hardware virtualisation

i have a Debian Etch guest installed some time ago on Squeeze host, and sorry i don't know else what could have blocked the installation
