wan mailserver deployment via VBox?

Hello,

I'm working on a test deployment (my first) of a mailserver, and I'd like to use VirtualBox (either an Ubuntu 10.04 Server with iRedMail or simply iRedOS) as the server. This is a learning tool — for now — but I want it to be live on the WAN, not just a LAN mailserver. Once I figure out what I'm doing a little better, I intend to scale up a bit, with personal email addresses for others in my family, at which point I'll install on dedicated hardware.

I have two questions for this forum:
  • - Is this possible?
    - How do I need to configure guest networking?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks. Is setting up bridged networking self-explanatory?

You just select it in the guest settings. nothing to setup actually. If you want to use static address instead of DHCP you do that on the guest. VirtualBox really has no control over that. Bridged will make the guest appear as another computer on the network.
