Logfile explodes - what can i do?

Hi,

VB 3.2.10 on Vista, Guest (among others) is XP

First, i noticed, some software i am using (BiNG = Bootit NG) didnt recognize additional virtual drives. They provided a workaround of some old VB bug, as - as they said - VB doesnt update BIOS data properly. Ok. Now, i am able to work with several virtual disks.

Next, i had to move large amounts of data from one VDI to another. But while the process slowed down tremendously, i noticed the machines logfile increasing in size by several GB.

Looking at it, i find repeated identical entries. these 4 lines repeat over and over:

Code: Select all

09:35:51.197 PIIX3 ATA: Ctl#1: finished processing RESET
09:35:51.200 Guest Log: BIOS: int13_harddisk: function 43, error 06 !
09:35:51.200 PIIX3 ATA: Ctl#1: RESET, DevSel=1 AIOIf=1 CmdIf0=0xa0 (-1 usec ago) CmdIf1=0x30 (-1 usec ago)
Now i do no longer have any ideas about how to get rid of this issue. And i have no clue what is going on there. :-(

This is indicating there is a problem writing to disk, cache overflow or not enabled on the Host drive(s), xp pre-sp3 guests can do this, outdated sata/scsi drivers, bad sectors, etc...

Thank for for shedding light into this!

XP has SP3 - wait - this is not XP actually running at that moment, it is my partition management software...
Just did a CHKDSK on the drive only to confirm: yes, there are bad sectors.

Ok. I wasnt aware of that. Again: thanks a lot for pointing me to it. :-)
