3.2.10 problem - BSOD during OS installation

Post by westi »

Hello,

I have a problem, that google somehow can't provide a solution to. I'm running Arch Linux and I've installed the newest VBox PUEL release. Every time I'm trying to install Windows XP, I get a BSOD with PAGE_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error, referring to setupdd.sys. Earlier this day I tried installing Windows 7, only to get BSODs along with a total crash and reboot of the host system, I didn't manage to catch the error phrase from them, but they happened in the same phase of the installation process - setup was copying needed installation files. Has anyone experienced anything like this and is willing to share his way of fixing it? :)

More technical info about the guest machine:
512 MB RAM (out of 2 GB)
fixed 30 GB virtual drive
32 MB of video RAM, tried both enabling and disabling the 2D and 3D acceleration

Thanks in advance, cheers!

Are you running kernel 2.6.36 by any chance? There is a problem with that currently and will be fixed in the next maintenance release. AFAIK, it happens when you run that kernel and have VT-x/AMD-V enabled and use it, but there are reports from users that don't have VT-x/AMD-V in their BIOS and still have this problem. No idea if they actually have this feature enabled in Guest settings though.
