Windows 7 64-bit guest install problems

I have a computer with Ubuntu 9.10 32-bit as the host, and Windows 7 64-bit installation DVD iso image as the guest. I am trying to install Windows 7 and it is very random sometimes it wont go past the Windows is loading files... screen and sometimes it will start installing files and then quit. I have an AMD Athlon II X4 630 , Memory - 6GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM. I have messed with the settings until I puked (not really), but this is very frustrating does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Several thing come to play.
bios does not support hardware virtualization or turned off.
Settings not proper for the install.
What is the version of VirtualBox and where did you get it from? Why is the host 32bit instead of 64Bit?

It is a very long story. I was running Windows 7 64-bit on my shiny new Dell, and then it decides it wants to BSOD on me and trash itself so it will not boot any more. Then I find out that Dell, in their infinite wisdom, made the recovery part of the Windows boot process. Since they decided not to provide a Windows 7 64-bit installation disc for me, I download an ISO. I tried it on my HP laptop, which has also had problems, and it works fine. So I wipe my hard drive and prepare for a new Windows 7 installation. Just kidding. It gets to the Windows is loading files screen and then restarts when it is done loading files. I dig around for openSUSE 11.3 64-bit. I get to the main menu, choose Installation, and it restarts. By this time I am extremely frustrated. So I do some more digging around the house and find Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala 32-bit. It boots fine and I am running it as I speak. My computer will not boot 64 bit operating systems and I do not know why. I have taken out RAM one at a time booting in between each, nothing. Put the RAM back in, booting in between each, nothing. I have booted from USB device with a 64-bit OS, nothing. I have looked through my BIOS so much I am sick of it. Yes the virtualization feature is on. I have since downloaded a 32-bit version of Windows 7 (not illegally, as I have a product key sticker) and VirtualBox runs it just fine.

My version of VB is the newest and I got it straight from the provider.

I don't have the logs anymore I deleted the 64-bit guest:( but I do have another problem. I have installed the guest additions and everything is going fine except for the fact that I dont have sound. Windows 7 does not see the sound card no matter which driver I use (OSS, ALSA, NULL, PulseAudio) How can I fix this?

download the drivers from realtek.com

Should I download the driver for Windows or Linux?

It's Windows that does not have sound so yes for Windows. it will be the AC97 and you select pulse audio more than likely in the guest settings since you are using Ubuntu

FWIW I had problems with choppy audio running Win 7 as client in VirtualBox on Fedora 14 Host. I resolved this issue by installing the equalizer on the Fedora 14 Host. I went to add/remove programs on host, searched for PulseAudio, found the equalizer program (noarch) and installed and enabled it on the host. This immediately resolved the issue.

You can also update to 4.0.0 and select HDA Audio as hardware type. It's a new feature and should solve the audio problems of Windows 7.
