Mouse lag in AutoCAD
I use VirtualBox primarily for AutoCAD, which has generally worked great. I recently started using a much more powerful desktop with dual monitors, and transferred my VM from my laptop onto the new machine. Since then I have been having an odd problem:
The mouse pointer has noticeable lag when it's in the AutoCAD view-port (The part of the window where the actual drawing is), but not when on the menu systems, ribbon etc, nor on any other programs. I Google the problem and found some tips to fix it (reducing size of cross hairs etc), but they all had no affect at all.
Here is the odd thing, my laptop had the same version of VirtualBox, the exact same vm (I just moved it over), and yet the same does not happen.
Desktop: Intel Q6600 Quad Core, NVIDIA GeForce 8400, Fedora 13
Laptop: Intel T6400 Duo, NVIDIA GeForce 9400MG, Fedora 13
Both computers are pretty similar, what could be causing the mouse lag on the desktop, but not on the laptop?
This is a huge problem for me, due to the nature of AutoCAD work, the mouse lag essentially makes it useless. I spoke with our Autodesk rep and he said they do not officially support AutoCAD under VirtualBox, and he did not have any suggestions for fixing it, so any ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

It was already off
Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
Try using vt-x and fix one cpu to the VM on your quadcore.

Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
vt-x already enabled and only 1 CPU allocated to that VM.
Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
Make a backup before doing this, but what if you copy/paste the contents of the machine xml file over? make sure you don't copy the Machine uuid and the Image uuid.

Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
What Host OS are you using? I has similar problems with my install of AutoCad and then I found that I did not have desktop effects turned on. I'm using PCLOS with KDE 4.
Let us know what you are using and how it's configured.

Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
I am using Fedora 13 as host (i686), running KDE4. Desktop effects in the host are turned on.
Will try the copying over and report back.

Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
Sorry to re-start an old topic, but this problem is still persisting.
I did a completely new install using Windows7 (we got given a full version) and the same thing happens.
For some reason, my QuadCore, 4Gb Ram desktop computer can't handle AutoCAD in VirtualBox, while my older, dual-core, 2Gb Ram laptop manages perfectly!
Can anyone give me any more ideas / suggestions as to what could be wrong here? Both computers use the same host OS, same version, installed in same way.
This has become nightmare for me, as that Laptop was due to be reformated and used for other things, but now it's sitting on my desk just for AutoCAD, so any ideas would be much appreciated.

according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... sing_units the laptops GeForce 9400MG is more powerful: 128bit memory i/face w/ 12.8GB/s (DDR2) or 17.056GB/s (DDR3) vs. 64bit 6.4GB/s; processing power 54 GFLOPs vs. 43 GFLOPs or 33 GFLOPs (rev.2)Gothicawakening wrote:Desktop: Intel Q6600 Quad Core, NVIDIA GeForce 8400, Fedora 13

Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
Wow, there's something I never suspected. would have though the desktop one was more powerful!
Anyhow, was able to make AutoCAD usable when I switched to Gnome. Am guessing that KWin was causing some sort of problem with Virtualbox (even with compositing turned off), since it works acceptably well in Gnome now. still noticing some delay in the drawing viewport, but much more usable then it was with KDE.

Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
Try to disable showing realtime drawing coordinates in status bar. This help me.
Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
I recently had this issue too. I think I found the solution.
For whatever reason, my cursor lags badly whenever I have my crosshairs set to 100. If I set it to something smaller the problem goes away.
I'm not sure what this is related to but I'm guessing that because of the extended crosshairs a larger re-draw is issued for the VM. Why it lags, I don't know.
But for the time being I was able to get rid of this mouse lag by changing the size of my crosshairs to a smaller number.

Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
I too have issues with AutoCAD 2009 in a XPsp3 VM running on Mac OS X 10.8.5.
The smaller crosshair sure helps, however I am having issues when panning the drawing in small moves. It's like the VM is "recording" the mouse movements and plays them back at a slower speed. That is, grabbing the mouse and panning circularly for a few seconds, then releasing the middle mouse button, the cursor stands still (as it should) but panning continues. This was not the case under Parallels.
AutoCAD 2009 sure works in mysterious ways when it comes to mouse capture, had issues even on real PCs, but the way it works under VirtualBox makes this almost unusable. I believe the team should check this out, AutoCAD can be found free for evaluation in AutoDesk's website (don't know if version 2009 is still available though).

Re: Mouse lag in AutoCAD
Disabling Shared Clipboard and Drag'n'Drop under General Advanced Tab removed the lag from Autocad for me. Hopefully this helps and is improved in future editions of virtual box.
