Linux as a guest and as main system on a single USB key

Hello,
I have a linux distribution installed on my USB key, and I am wondering if I can boot directly my PC on it (to get full hardware capabilities) and alternatively boot in a VM (using VirtualBox raw disk trick) without data corruption ?
If yes, I still have more questions :
- Can I install Guest additions in the "VM mode" ?
- Can I install graphic card drivers in the "direct boot mode" ?
Is there someone else who faces this kind of needs ?
Regards,
Bruno.
