usb only appears in guest

Post by hotzeleo »

Hi,

Host: OS X 10.6.4

Guest: Win 7x64

I finally got USB working for guest, but I cannot get it to work on the host.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Is the Guest running when you plug in the device? Then it might have an empty filter and thus grabs every device you connect when it's running.

Thanks, the guest was running when I plugged in.

My follow-up question then is

Can I have the host to read the USB after I started VBox?

(I am assuming the USB plugged in prior to the start of the guest is still control by the host and not the guest).

Thanks

USB devices plugged in before the VM loads will stay on the Host. To give a device back to the Host after the Guest has grabbed it, is simply releasing it from the VM menu. Devices > USB and click on the device that's captured. If it's a mass storage device, be sure to safely remove it on the Guest first to prevent data corruption.
