I'd like to make Space Empires 5 to work inside a XP VM in Win7/Vista (It's really slow under these systems because they don't have native Direct X < 9 support), but (like Dungeon Keeper 1 3D) it crashes on startup. I tried WineD3D, but it crashes even harder.
What can I try to emulate Direct3D ?

If the WineD3D crashes, then the GA won't do much either when installed in safe mode. It seems that you don't have much options other than going native.
