Slack 13.1 no communication via mouse or keyboard?

Just installed Slackware 13.1 32 bit as guest in Debian Lenny amd64 host.
Problem is simply that I cannot interact in any way with the X type thing. It is not KDE it is the simpler thing, begins with an X. At the black screen there is no problem the mouse, gpm, and the keyboard work. How do I get to put input into the XFGS, or whatever it is called, thing? For example when the screensaver pictures start running nothing will stop them. Thanks any help.
