I just installed Virtualbox 3.2.10 on Windows XP, SP3 and was trying to install my first VM. It is for Vista 32 bit. However, VirtualBox reports an error that says:
"An error has occured during virtual machine execution! ...Unable to allocate and lock memory. The virtual machine will be paused. Please close applications to free up memory or close the VM".
I closed all applications and even restarted the host, but the same error comes up. I also tried disabling my antivirus software, but I get the same problem. I have 2GB of RAM on the host, of which approx. 880MB is allocated to the Guest OS. Vista will not install. I am attempting to install directly from the Vista DVD.
What is the solution to this problem?

You're going to need at least 1GB of RAM for Vista, but it sounds like you need to free up memory on the host. If you look at the guests log file that VirtualBox creates you will see the available memory and that should tell you when you have enough
