Guest XP Pro installation issue

Ok, I searched, but could not find any topics that covered this, so if this is a repeat, I apologize.
I am trying to install 32 bit XP Pro with SP2 in a VM on a Windows 7 64 bit host. After the license agreement screen I get a screen that states the installer could not find a version of Windows to upgrade from, and asks that I press enter when I have placed the valid CD in the drive.
I would be happy to comply except for a couple of issues
Any ideas?

- I don't have any media for any older versions of windows.
- The CD I am using is NOT an upgrade version, it is a full retail version.
Any ideas?
