USB HDD failed to connect

Using the USB Seagate in Win7 no problem it does not show in my Vista guest with the following error

any way to fix this? thanks for thoughts

The host has captured it and has it locked. To avoid this, unmount the drive from Disk Management and see how that goes. Another thing you can do is make a filter for the device and plug it in after the VM is fully loaded. It will then be send to the VM directly.
Alternative is to use Shared Folders, which gives you the option to write to the drive from the Guest and Host at the same time.
