VBox file locations - Transfer.

Post by Mutts »

Hi,

I've had a search around first before posting but could only find threads over 3 yrs old regarding the location of the .VDI files.

I have to admit I am very limited in my knowledge of the MAC OS x and of VirtualBox (apologies).

Basically my boss had a VBox of WinXP on his Mac long story short he buggered up his Mac hard drive, but he mainly did his work in the VBox image. I've managed to get a lot of the data of the hard disk and was hoping to grab the VBox files so I could perhaps port them onto a new laptop for him. But I just can't seem to find the file(s) that would be required.

I found a VirtualBox.app folder and have rescued that but I was kind off expecting a large file that would be the actual data file of the WinXP.

Anyone able to shed any light on this for me?

Cheers

The files are in the users Library Folder, if you look in ~/Library/VirtualBox/

so for my username of david full path would be

/Users/david/Library/VirtualBox

or "Macintosh HD:Users:david:Library:VirtualBox" in standard Mac notation.

Hope that helps...

Cheers I'll fire up the Linux and try and read the dodgy disk again.

As the disk to put it in a technical term of buggered. I have had to use linux to read the disk via a usb hub. Seems I can't access these folders.

Just when you thought your day couldn't get any worse...

I'll have to try and find a way to force my way into the folders.
