Win 3.11 Networking

Post by Archdeacon »

(Host XP SP3; Guest WFW 3.11)
After a lot of searching on the AMD site I have now downloaded both the
dos_mslanman & WFW311_pci3 drivers, but I would like to add the following notes
about how to install them, as I could find nothing on Google:

1/. Use WinRar to extract to the executable file of the same name.
2/. This is the odd bit - Use WinRar AGAIN to extract the files from the
executables. You will end up with: License, oemsetup, pcntn3.386, protocol.ini,
pcntnd.dos and pcntnd.nif
3/. Copy all these to a floppy image. I use PowerISO but there are many others.
4/. Start WFW311 and Network > Drivers > Add Adapter. Mount the above floppy,
select Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter, follow the instructions using
defaults and all should be well.

This should connect, BUT I still cannot get DNS resolution to work, although I am
using 10.0.2.3 as the Name Server, as mentioned in other posts. Can anyone help
with this please?

I have set up a DOS menu on startup as it was necessary to delete the file
'c:\windows\protocol.ini' if any errors in the above caused a lockup. This just
means that the system will load with no network drivers installed.
