I'm running VirtualBox 3.2.10 on an iMac running 10.6.4. What I am trying to figure out is what I need to have in PCLinuxOS to make sure the PUEL version of the guest additions are running correctly.
There are four files normally pre-installed in PCLOS: "dkms-vboxadditions" and "virtualbox-guest-additions", the former's description says its the "Kernel module for VirtualBox OSE additions", then we have the latter which says "Additions for VirtualBox OSE guest systems". I don't know if I need both, one or the other or neither.
What is also installed are "x11-driver-input-vboxmouse" and "x11-driver-video-vboxvideo". Both are described as... "X.org drivers in VirtualBox guests".
When I try to install the PUEL GAs, I get the rather long message ...
"You appear to have a version of the VBoxGuestAdditions software
on your system which was installed from a different source or using a
different type of installer. If you installed it from a package from your
Linux distribution or if it is a default part of the system then we strongly
recommend that you cancel this installation and remove it properly before
installing this version. If this is simply an older or a damaged
installation you may safely proceed.".
If you remove JUST the guest additions not everything works as it should, if you leave them in not everything works as it should.
I really want to run the PUEL versions of the VirtualBox guest additions, so I am really trying to figure out what I need to remove or add to make sure PCLinuxOS is running as a guest the way it should be. If anyone knows.
thanks

doesn't seem like there are a lot of people running PCLinuxOS as a guest.

Re: How to install the GAs in PCLinuxOS properly?
well, this doesn't make sense to me but it's worked on three flavors of PCLinuxOS. Once installed to the VDI. I had to uninstall the built-in OSE guest additions and kernel, reboot. install the PUEL guest additions, reboot. then re-install the OSE kernel module and OSE guest additions before things like dragging the screen to resize would work.

I'm having trouble understanding why seeing PCLinuxOS is in the top ten, usually around 6 or 7, widely used Linux flavors, there seems to be no one here or over at PCLinuxOS themselves who knows the proper way to install PCLinuxOS as a guest.
