Read the manual and install guest additions in safe mode. Thats all what you need.

You must not install a DirectX Installer.
The Guest Additions installs some basic 3D with Wine3D compatible to DirectX 9. More is not possible.
And for tthe manual press F1 in VBOX.

How much damage, and Vista, if Windows 7 will be enough to dissuade people from Windows XP you have any questions, nobody has the answer end-user redistributable today.DirectX redistributable that developers can integrate their products. redistributable license agreement covers the terms under which developers can use redistributable.Windows 7 is what Vista should have been when we had to go.
