FullScreen low Resolution Games

Post by Lex_Luther »

Hi,
I run Win7 (1920x1080) as Host and WinXP Pro on Virtual Box (3.2.10).
Now i tried to run an old Game (Diablo1 and Diablo2) on my Guest.
The Game itself runs well, nut i want to run it in fullscreen.
If I start the game the Resolution turns down to 480x640.
If I run my guest system in fullscreen by pressing Ctrl+F before starting the game runs in 480x640 with a black frame around.
I installed guest addition.

After studying several hours and searching on the internet I can’t find any solution for this problem.
Can anybody help me with this problem?

Sorry for the bad English, I hope its understandable… :|

Thank You anyway :)

Maybe if you searched a bit better, you would've figured out that VB does not have a stretch feature. See http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=35456 for more information.

Thank You for the quick answer.
I did find the information, that VB does not include this yet, but I hoped there may be add or any other solution for that.
Is there any information about the release of the new version which includes this feature?
I can’t find a date or anything in the thread you posted.

Correct, there is no release schedule, no roadmap, nothing. We don't have anything that we can expect in new major versions and when there will be a new release. Major versions do happen to get a beta period first, so we can get a taste of it and the devs can fix more bugs than with the usual internal testing.

You can try and see if the new feature is already in the SVN trunk, but that means you have to compile it manually, and I doubt you're willing to do that.

Btw, Diablo runs fine in Wine.

I think I will wait for the feature and play the game in Window-Mod while waiting ;)

Diablo II runs will in Wine, but especially Diablo I hase some multiplayerproblems i wonna avoid.

I hope the release will be available next time ;)

May I suggest you to try the now dead VirtualPC emulator ?
It runs quite a bunch of software very well, alas without any 2D or 3D acceleration, but is capable of doing fullscreen.
The PC version is now available for free from Microsoft and their site (don't be affraid, it's not really a MS software :D, they just bought it before killing the project).
I successfully used it to run CAO / PAO software as well as good old games (I even tried Quake II and III in software renderer for fun and it was pretty good indead)

Edit : MS VirtualPC is not supported under Windows 7. Donno if "not supported" means "won't work" or "any support demands will be ignored". There now is WinVPC (I was wrong, VirtualPC has not be killed, its functionnalities have been reduced :)), but it seems cannot boot anything below XP.
