My host is a windows 7 and my guest a windows XP
whem i try to install a USB printer on the host it goes ok.
but whem i try to install the printer on the guest,
i go through the instalation, and whem the installer asks
to connect the USB printer, i do it, them stays connected for
a while and suddently the usb is disconnected. making the
instalation to fail.
what to do?

Why not just share the printer, as you would to a second machine on a LAN? This would also solve the problem of controlling which machine had control of the USB port.

It could be a problem if Windows 7 is a 64-bit OS. Did you need to install a 64-bit printer driver?
Otherwise, as long as the host and guest are in the same network you use normal WIndows file and printer sharing. If you don't know how to do that in Windows 7, post in a WIndows 7 forum.
