external hard drives

Post by chips7400 »

I have installed the full virtualbox software in the hope that I would be able to see the hard drive on which I stored all my windows files before going to a imac. The show up as active in the settings but are greyed out when i use the usb listings. I have tried releasing /ejecting them from the host system but to no avail. From what I read I had believed that the full version would enable me to use my hard drives. I am new to Imac and would hope that someone can give me some clear steps to take to resolve this issue. Thanks for reading and any help will be very much appreciated

It appears that your iMac has captured the USB device and does not allow you to release it so it can be passed to the Guest. I am wondering why you need to use a VM for it, as Mac OSX can read and write NTFS drives too after you install ntfs-3g.
