I've just installed VirtualBox on my Snow Leopard fully updated MacBook Pro. It opens fine and appears to run fine however I am unable to ctrl-click to get to the VB iso files in the VB app package. I also cannot get to my cd drive where I have my WInXP iso.

Is this a problem others have encountered and overcome? I'm stumped. I've looked everywhere I can and followed the manual closely but no joy.

Exactly what would this 'ctrl+click' do on a Mac? Why would you need it?

Ctrl-click in the Mac world means to right click. (Macs usually only have one button, you know...)

If I understand clickatunt's problem correctly, xe has removed VBoxGuestAdditions.iso from the media manager. It's then impossible to ctrl-click to show what's inside the applications. (In OS X, Cocoa applications are really "packages" in the form of a folder with resources inside.)

There are several ways to restore this. The easiest way is probably to start a virtual machine and choose "Install Guest Additions" in the Devices menu, which will mount that ISO as well add it back to the list. If you want to re-add it manually, for some reason, open a Finder window, go to Applications, right... I'm sorry, control-click VirtualBox and choose "Show Package Contents". Open "Contents". Then in the media manager, click add in the CD/DVD tab. The trick then is to drag the ISO file From the Finder window to the "open" dialog and drop it there. This works for any file in any "open" dialog, I should add, which is handy if you want to open a file that you have visible in a Finder window and don't want to do a lot browsing in the dialog.

The second problem is how to connect to a physical CD/DVD drive. The solution is to edit the machine settings and under the storage tab, choose the physical drive as the CD/DVD device. Enabling pass-through mode is not necessary or recommended for just reading a CD. Screen shot below:

I think I was close to the solution you provided because I did find my way to the Finder window VBox package but then I didn't know what to do next. Dragging seemed way too simple. I do not believe I would have ever figured out how to get the physical drive mapped.

But like said, for the guest additions ISO in particular, it's probably easier to just use the menu item in Devices.

Indeed. I'm a huge fan of piloting through the menu rather than bushwhacking through my own invention of process. Not that it isn't fun, of course...

I aspire to yodawg with wild abandon. However, I will have to settle for now, with having WinXP install without failing every time it hits the Network settings. Bleepitybleepin' unattended setup disks...
