{Vista x64 host, win2000 guest on Dell 530S, 4 G RAM, PENTIUM E5200] This VM is working fine. My question is, when installing software the last step is usually the "restart now?" prompt. Do these prompts invoke the ACPI shutdown, or am I powering off? Is it OK to use the software restart, or should I skip it and use the VM close routine?

BTW, search doesn't seem to work . Is it just me?

I always use the restart offered from the installer.

Yes, that's what I've been doing, withoug being sure it's the correct procedure. I guess VB interprets the software restarts as ab ACPI shutdown or a reset.

The installer just calls the power API of the OS, which in turn does it's things when it's told to shut down or reboot. The VM (VB in this case) just simply handles the ACPI reboot call like your own computer would. Nothing fancy going on there compared to a real computer.
