Hi,

My host is ubuntu 10.4
I had created manually the vboxusers group with no specific properties. I want to use the serial port under windows xp to manage my GPS.
I had read the manual and topics within the forum, but it did not help solving my problem.
I had configured the Vm as follow :
Activate serial interface
Port number COM1
IRQ 4 0x3f8
Mode : Peripherique hôte
Path com1:
When I attempt to lunch the VM it stops with the following error :
Failed to open host device 'com1:' (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).
Unknown error creating VM (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).
Thanks for any hint.

I am having a similar problem. I am running Windows XP SP3 on VirtualBox 3.2.10. Ubuntu 10.04 is my host system. I setup a serial port within the Windows XP with these parameters: Port Number: COM1, IRQ: 4, I/O Port: 0x3F8, Port Mode: Host Device, Port/File Path: /dev/ttyS0. However, when I launch Windows and attempt to open a serial connection through HyperTerminal, it does not detect the COM1 port -- only TCP/IP (Winsock). Also, the USB and USB 2.0 controllers were enabled in setup, but Windows cannot detect USB devices. Could someone help explain what I am doing wrong?

The Path is for Windows hosts.
Check the manual for correct Ubuntu setting.
