vdi size

Hi all,
I'd want to backup my vitual machine and I have copied my vdi file, which is about 3 GB. But in my virtual machine I have data for about 20 GB: is there any other place where there is data? I don't think this difference is only made by compression.
I have copied only vdi found in HardDisks subfolder of VirtualBox folder.
Thank you,

Teo

Make them immutable and swap the VDI's around to check if the copy is ok.

Be very careful if you have been using snapshots in that VM. If you have then the 3GB file is only the base VDI, and you'll find snapshot VDIs (probably containing all your important data) in your .VirtualBox/<machine>/Snapshots folder. If you used snapshots then I'm afraid they make backup and restore problematic, except for backup and restore of the entire VBox folder tree - which is of course not very flexible.

Um, some feedback from you would be nice too, like whether any of these answers has addressed your problem.
