Hi Team,

I have some problem in assigning ip address in windows server 2003. Here is the clear description explaining me about problem facing in assigning ip address in windows server 2003.

I have installed Windows Xp in my Laptop on windows Xp I have installed Sun virtual box, in Sun virtual box I have installed Windows Server 2003, here the ip address is showing as 10.0.2.15, In my home I have set up router which gives the dynamic ip address when ever the system is "ON". For windows Xp it is showing correct ip address as 192.168.x.x, but in windows server 2003 it is showing ip address as 10.0.2.15, it should show 192.168.x.x.

So please help in how assign dynamic ip address in windows server 2003.

I have one more doubt. I kept windows server 2003 DVD in my DVD ROM, and opened virtualbox and started windows server 2003 but here I am not able to see that DVD.

I installed windows server 2003 in virtualBox as well as I installed DNS in windows server 2003 after installing DNS in windows server 2003, in command prompt I have given one command the command is nslookup the reply you see in attachment.

I came out from virtual box windows server 2003, the same command I have given in windows xp the reply you can see in attachment , from windows xp I am not able to connect to DNS which I installed in windows server 2003.

But here windows xp and windows server 2003 both are in same network i.e. 192.168.x.x.

So, please help me out to resolve this issue.

Hello!!!!!!!!!!! can anybody help me out in resolving this issue.

A look at an ipconfig /all of the XP machine (and the server) would help. You will need to give the DNS server a static IP.

Can you ping the server from the XP machine using the 192.168 address? What IP address is set for DNS on the XP machine? If you want it to use the server for DNS, if should be using the server's IP address for DNS. If it is using 127.0.0.1 it is trying to do an nslookup locally (which will fail).

I have given ipconfig/all in windows xp as well as windows server 2003 and also given static ip in DNS server.
I am able to ping server ip from windows xp, I have same DNS ip address in windows xp.
I tried in all angles but still not working

I am able to ping server DNS ip address, ip address and gateway also from windows xp but when I am given nslookup it is showing that error.

on both the sides windows xp and windows server 2003 I have given static ip also but till not working, not able to do nslookup from windows xp

Not without some information. So far all we know is it does not work.
What are the network setting in the guest area of VirtualBox?
Post the results of ipconfig /all, Host and guest/s.

You should be detailed in what it is you are trying to do, what you have done to get there, and any error messages or logs that will assist us in finding out if this is a VirtualBox error or a user error. Keep in mind that it is not in the scope of this forum to teach you how to use Windows. That's what the Microsoft forums are for.
