Choppy audio... windows 7 x64 guest

Running windows 7 x64 guest on windows 7 x64 host. Gave it 2gb ram (host has 8gb) and 2 cpus (host running quad core Q6600 2.4ghz) and 40gb space. All audio is stuttery/choppy. I had to use the realtek drivers to get the ac97 audio to install in the guest. Host sound device is Realtek ALC888. I tried setting the virtualbox process to high priority but that only helped marginally. It's been doing it since I started using virtualbox on this PC, since 3.2.0 thru the newest version.
